Ten Videos on How to Make an Urban Beat

In the run-up to the full on launch of BattleBling.com , I am posting some really cool videos on beat making. Since beats come in many different style, each video will feature a certain style (maybe old school, dirty south, chipmunk, etc..) These vary based on skill level, but if you pay attention, you'll get it. Good luck!

To start you off here are my top ten

Producer Hi-Fly using Sony Acid Pro and some old r&b to make that chipmunky old Kanye style beat. I know it's Kanye West and all, but I happen to like this style. Too bad it got overplayed.

This next guy is real good. Slow jam style beat, .. A little more advanced since it requires some keyboard action. Uses Propellerheads Reason--my synth of choice.

I know what you are thinking when you first hear this next guy from warbeats.com ...but give him a chance with this Dre' style southern Cali beat using FL Studio.

This next video uses FL Studio as well. Very simple, but epic style rap beat..you might actually have to think about the lyrics kind of beat. The guy's name is Saud from Hiphoptutorial.com.

I like this reggae video from mestizo beats because it shows good use of the keyboard for making drum patterns & loops.

Ok... so we've made it half-way through. As a little bonus, I want to throw in this Scott Storch interview... a little inspiration from perhaps one of the most prolific beat makers (about $86,000 for your average club-banger). Not bad for the ex Roots keyboardist.

Ok... moving on... this is another long video by warbeats.com. Timbaland style.

This next video from expertvillage gives some great tips on sequencing east coast style.

I think this next one is very basic, but good for beginners. If you have reason 4.0 and still haven't made a beat with it yet, you should check this out.

Next we have a more advanced video using Fruity Loops, but only because it has no narration. The style is "old school" by Bulldozer

And last, but certainly not least, we cant forget about the west coast. More sequencing tips from expertvillage.
